Course 1: IoT Overview & Basic Home & Wearable Devices

This course introduces students to the rapidly evolving field of IoT technologies. It provides foundational knowledge about their infrastructure, the legal frameworks that govern them, and unique IoT evidence that may not be available elsewhere. It covers tools and techniques for collecting and analyzing data using desktop, cloud, and other tools while providing strategies for building IoT skills. It also provides many real-life case studies in which IoT evidence was useful in prosecuting various crimes. Students will explore device and cloud data from popular devices like Echo Alexa (2nd and 4th Gen), Gear S2/S3 smartwatches, Echo Dot, and Fitbit. The course also addresses challenges in IoT forensics, AI use in forensics, and an overview of tools for various stages of IoT forensic investigations.
